The Saida Waheed Gender Initiative at LUMS announces its inaugural colloquium for student research examining issues relating to the study of gender in Pakistan.
Applications are being invited from students (undergraduate and master’s) across disciplines – including history, economics, literature, public health & medicine, sociology, anthropology – to present at the colloquium, which will take place on April 9, 2016.
Foregrounding gender as a contested category of analysis and action, the Initiative approaches gender as a set of relations and processes that include women, men, and members of the third gender. We encourage research proposals that attend to the complex construction and operation of gender across different spatial and temporal contexts. This may include research on topics including, but not limited to, representations of gender in literature/film/television, the politics and economics of gender and inequality, histories of activism and organizing, debates within feminist theory, the causes and consequences of gender-based violence, the construction of gender within religious discourses, etc.
